Business Health Check: your business, seen from both sides

Leadership and the team answer the same 30 questions, each worded for their own view. You see what's working, where views differ and where to look first.

When a Health Check is useful

  • Too much depends on you, or on two or three key people, and you want to see where.
  • The business has grown, and you're not sure the way it's organised has kept up.
  • You suspect leadership and the team see things differently, and want evidence.
  • You want to know where to focus before you change anything.

It is not a grade, a pass-or-fail test or a staff engagement survey. It is evidence about how the business runs, so you can decide what to do next.

Where leadership and team see the business differently

Both questionnaires cover the same 30 topics, each worded for the person answering. So the two groups can be compared question by question, not just area by area. A gap is not a verdict. It shows where perceptions differ, and why is worth understanding.

Direction matters. Leadership scoring higher than the team means something different from the reverse, so every gap keeps its sign.

Six areas, each assessed on its own

Five questions in each area, 30 in all. Each area is reported separately, because a strong average can hide a weak spot.

  • Current State

    Where are we today?

  • Direction

    Where are we going?

  • People

Do we have the people and capability we need?

  • Process & Operations

How effectively does the business work?

  • Customers

Are we delivering the value our customers expect?

  • Performance & Control

Do we know what is happening?

What it asks of you and your people

  1. Set up

We agree who sits in the leadership group and who in the team group, and which departments or sites you want to compare.

  2. Everyone answers

Each person gets a link that works on any device and saves as they go. Answering takes a staff member about 20 minutes.

  3. Paper for anyone without a device

Printed questionnaires carry no name. Completed pages are scanned, and nothing counts until a person has checked what was read.

  4. The evidence is assembled

Averages, gaps and flags are calculated as answers arrive. Written reasons are grouped into themes, each linked to its comments.

  5. Review and report

The consultant reviews the evidence and makes every judgement. You receive the Business Health Snapshot and choose the priorities.

From setup to the Snapshot report, a Health Check takes about four weeks.

Five sources of insight behind every finding

  • Scores

Show where to look: the areas that appear strong, established, in need of attention or a priority.

  • Comments

Explain why. Written reasons give the context behind the scores.

  • Perception gaps

Show where leadership and the team see the same business differently.

  • Recurring themes

Show patterns. One comment is one experience. The same point from many people is stronger evidence.

  • 90-day priorities

Show what people believe would make the biggest difference over the next 90 days.

What you receive: the Business Health Snapshot

A concise report: evidence first, then our recommendations. The findings come from the evidence. The priorities remain your decision.

  1. Where the business is today: what works and what gets in the way
  2. How closely leadership and team views align, area by area
  3. All six areas, each assessed on its own
  4. The key strengths worth protecting
  5. Every material improvement opportunity, not only the top three
  6. The BoldLine Group's recommended priorities, with the evidence for each
  7. Your chosen priorities, kept separate from ours
  8. What happens next for each priority you agree

There is no overall score. A single number can hide a serious weakness, so we tell you what the evidence says instead.

Each area is assessed on its own, gaps show which way views differ, and the priorities you choose sit beside ours.

Confidential, and never attributed to individuals

  • Each invitation link works once. After that it is cut from the answers, and no name or email is stored with them.
  • No department or site breakdown is shown for a group of fewer than five people. Their answers count in the company total.
  • Written comments can reveal who wrote them, so the consultant reads them first. Any shared with you can be reworded to remove identifying detail.
  • You receive the report, not the raw responses.

Human-led. Technology-enabled.

The platform does

  • Calculates every average, gap and flag with ordinary arithmetic that gives the same answer every time
  • Drafts the words of the report from figures already calculated, and records which figures it used
  • Groups written comments into themes, each linked to the responses behind it

The consultant does

  • Reads the evidence and decides what it means for your business
  • Decides which areas need attention, and recommends the priorities
  • Edits and approves every word before anything reaches you

What follows the Health Check, if you want it

The findings lead into five frameworks, from Direction to Organisation Effectiveness. Each builds on the evidence you already have, rather than starting again with another survey.

Questions you may have

How long does a Health Check take?

About four weeks, from setup to the Snapshot report.

How much of my people's time does it take?

Answering the questionnaire takes a staff member about 20 minutes. They rate 30 statements from 1 to 4, and give a short reason when they answer 1, 2 or 4.

What about people who don't use a device at work?

They answer on paper. The printed questionnaire carries no name. Completed pages are scanned, and a person checks what was read before any answer counts, so paper answers are as reliable as online ones.

Will people really be honest?

The scale has no neutral option, so everyone takes a position. Answers are confidential and never attributed to individuals, and small groups are never shown on their own. That makes an honest answer easier to give.

Is this an employee engagement survey?

No. It asks how the business runs: direction, people and capability, processes, customers and performance. It doesn't measure engagement, and it doesn't assess individuals.

Do we get a score?

No. The six areas are assessed separately and there is no overall score, anywhere. One number can make a business look healthy while hiding a serious weakness in one area.

Do we get access to the data?

You receive the Snapshot report. The raw responses stay with BoldLine, which protects the people who answered.

What does it cost?

We don't publish prices. We'll talk it through with you in a first conversation.
